When you were once mine

When you were once mine,
Where our lives once intertwined,
There was a boy who wrote lines
Of poetry for my valentine.

And though the world was beautiful then,
I never did treasure you, my friend.
I let you slip away from my hands
Like sand particles washed off the land.

Despite all odds you took my heart
And plucked my heartstrings like a harp
With all the courage you could find
But that was when you were once mine.

You once loved me in your own unique way.
You could talk to me all day;
Show me your smile you never display.
Embrace me when I was out in the cold
And warm me when I shivered in the snow.

When you were with me,
You held my hand tenderly;
Sat beside me closely
And lean your head on my shoulders gently.

But those were when you were once mine,
And you may already have left the past behind…

As I remember every tear you shed,
I start hoping so naively that
Sparks will ignite once again
As I attempt to paint
Music from where I left off
And walk on the bridge I once crossed.

When you were once mine,
And where our lives once intertwined,
Here stands a boy who writes lines
Of poetry hoping that time
Would bend and rewind
For me to undo my crimes.

I am flooded again with love and remorse
Remembering when I was once yours.
Now that my heart defrost,
I wonder if I could still be yours
To keep, forevermore…
